June Shirley Skaret

(September 8, 1929 - June 5, 2018)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother June Skaret on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at the age of 88 years.  She passed peacefully with her loving family by her side.  Mom, an accomplished pianist and lover of good books lived most of her life in Edmonton where she was born.  Following years as a homemaker, piano teacher and Eaton’s retail clerk she lived a quiet retirement playing beautiful music on her cherished grand piano, reading many books, watching golf and knitting for the less fortunate.  Mom and her family were most proud of her musical accomplishments which included Associate Diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARTC) in Piano Performance and Teaching.

In October 2017 she moved from Edmonton to Calgary to live in an assisted living residence, very close to her son Warren, daughter-in-law Allison and granddaughter Kirsten.  Mom enjoyed her time at her new residence, drives to see the mountains and most of all spending time with her family.  She especially enjoyed family dinners with Warren, Allison and Kirsten, and when visiting from Pennsylvania her daughter Deborah and son-in-law John Backof.

In addition to her children, June is also survived by her granddaughter Lisa (Phil Wilson) and two great-granddaughters Brynn and Anna, granddaughter Kirsten Skaret, sisters-in-law Arlene and Carol, nieces Kathy and Denise, nephews John, Todd and Chad, and extended family members.

June was predeceased by her parents John and Rose Lesik, and sister Joyce.

At mom’s request, no funeral was held.  In its place a wonderful dinner was held in her honour with her immediate family, her nephews and nieces, and closest relatives where many special memories were shared.  If friends and family so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of their choice.
