The family of John Arthur Buchanan of Killam, formerly of Camrose and Edmonton regret to announce his passing on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 90 years of age. He is survived by his second wife Luella (Skognes 27 years), 4 stepchildren, their spouses and families, nieces, nephews, his extended families and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Jean (Cameron 37 years), brother Harold, and sisters Edith, Hazel, and Ellen. John was born at Cooking Lake, raised in Westlock, was a farmer, fighter plane mechanic in W.W.II, instructed @ Jacobs Welding, ending his working career as a welding foreman for Alberta Highways before retiring. John and Lue moved to Camrose where they resided until moving to a continuing care facility in Killam this year. John was a gentleman who devoted his life to his wives and families. He was a gift to the family, loved as a father and dear grandfather. He left a positive impression on all who knew him. He was supporter of many charities especially the church. His faith in God was a strong part of his life. His hobbies were fishing, cross country skiing, golfing and watch repairs. He will be missed. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009 from Camrose First Baptist Church (6406 44 B Ave Camrose) with Rev. Pat Schoenberger officiating. Inurnment followed in the Camrose Cemetery. With both wives having diabetes, John requested donations be made to The Diabetes Association or Killam Continuing Care or the charity of one's choice. Thanks to the management and staff at the Killam Continuing Care Centre for the great care given by all the staff.
