Obituary of Hilda Johnson

Please share a memory of Hilda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hilda, beloved wife of Jarvin of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, formerly of Camrose, Alberta passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the age of 90 years. She was born October 16, 1926 in Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan, the middle child of seven siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Jarvin, of 65 years; three daughters, Deborah (Duane) Lawrence of Sherwood Park, Colleen (Chris) Andersen of Calgary, and Shelly (Rick) Crookes of Stony Plain; five granddaughters, Dayna (Jonathan) Bond of Sherwood Park, Megan Lawrence of Sherwood Park, Kendyl (Adam) Wood of Drayton Valley, Kelsey Andersen of Toronto, Kaitlin Bourgeois of Barrhead; three great-granddaughters, Peyton, Gemma and Alyssa. Hilda is also survived by her sister Josephine Klein. Hilda was predeceased by three sisters Mary Klinke, Leona Moess and Theresia Paul; and two brothers; Anthony and Frank. She and Jarvin married November 15, 1951 and farmed in the Ribstone, Alberta area for 28 years. In the summer of 1979, they sold the farm and semi-retired to an acreage just outside of Vermilion, Alberta. Twenty-six years later, in 2005, they retired to Camrose and lived there until November 2015 when they moved to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta to reside at the Dr. Turner Lodge. Throughout her life, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed reaping the benefits of her gardens, as she was known to have more than one garden patch planted each year, to share with family and friends. Her love of flowers was evident in her flower beds and the number of plants in the house. A polka with Jarvin was always a good Saturday night. All the other ladies were jealous of her being twirled around the dance floor. She also enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards, or just to have a good cup of tea and conversation. Hilda will be fondly remembered as someone who loved her family. Playing with her great-grandchildren was always a favourite activity. She loved nature and colour, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, watching curling with Jarvin, or trying a new recipe and was not afraid of hard work. Her philosophy was 'idle hands make for idle minds'. Mom always encouraged 'her girls' to do the best they could at whatever it was they were doing, showed interest in what they were undertaking, and cheered them on from the sidelines. Mom stressed to treat others as you'd wish to be treated - the Golden Rule. This has been passed on to the daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters, leaving behind a legacy of kindness. A Funeral Service was held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. MaryAnn Pastuck officiating. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance or to the charity of one's choice.
