Obituary of Clay Broen

Please share a memory of Clay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Clay Broen announces the passing of their little angel, on January 13, 2009, in his mother's arms at the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton at the age of 10 years. Clay was born on July 23, 1998 at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose, Alberta. When Clay was three years old he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Clay spent a lot of his short life in and out of hospital, but had incredible strength and courage, partly due to family and friends, especially his mother. Clay attended Sparling School in Camrose from 2003 - 2009. He loved to learn. He impacted the lives of many students and teachers. Clay had many travels in his life including Disneyland in 2003, Niagra Falls in 2005, and then Disney World in 2008. Clay loved to sneak out early in the morning with Daryl to go fishing or just spend time together. Clay loved to help auntie René on Avon Day and spent many visits organizing her fridge, cupboards, and drawers. Clay loved to make everything perfect. He also loved to spend time with family and friends playing, organizing, cleaning, visiting and entertaining us. He loved playing video games, board games, riding his quad, building lego houses, collecting cars, camping, sitting by the fire, and anything that involved being around people. Clay is survived by his loving mother Janelle Broen (Camrose), his baby brother Carter Broen (Camrose), his mentor and accomplice Daryl, grandmother Kathy Broen (Camrose), grandfather Robert Broen (Camrose), as well as great-grandmothers, many aunts and uncles, cousins, grandmother Linda Giggs (Camrose), and father Travis Giggs (Red Deer). Clay was predeceased by his great-great grandmother Harda Hendrickson (Camrose) in 2003 and great-grandfather Darrel Hendrickson (Camrose) in 2004. Special thanks to: Dr. McGonigle and staff, Stollery Children's Hospital (PICU), and Arlene Peterson for all their support. Clay's special friends:Daryl, Auntie René, Joan, Shayla, Scott, Damon, Darnell, Everly and Emily. Clay's zest for life and devotion to his family were inspirational for all who knew him, and he will be missed and will forever be in our hearts. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Brian Hunter (St. Mary's Hospital Pastoral Care) officiating. Lunch followed in the Sparling School gymnasium. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Clay Broen Memorial Fund at Scotia Bank.
